Day 248 and Exercise

So last night I decided that I was going to get up this morning and do my Walk away the pounds exercise DVD that I've had forever and have used maybe once or twice. I've been thinking alot about my health lately and I want to make some changes. Anyway, I made it just a little over halfway through the 1 mile portion which I thought was a pretty good start. Then Tom and I took MaryAnn (our beagle) for a walk tonight. Only with MaryAnn, you don't really walk her, she walks you. LOL. I read recently that walking a dog or pushing a stroller burns more calories. I've got both of those covered easily. The kids LOVE to get out and walk, we usually walk several times a week. At any rate, the exercise this morning helped me start out the day with a lot more energy and the walk tonight felt really good. So, keep your fingers crossed that I can keep it up and that my asthma doesn't become a problem again!

I was thinking that walking is the ultimate frugal activity. It's fun, it's relaxing, and Tom and I got to have a nice long talk as we walked. When we had our club meeting last week, one of the new members that came was talking about the fitness center they're going to be opening here in Pond Creek. I am interested in joining, but I thought to myself, should I spend money on this when I'm not even using the DVD that I already have? So if we decide that we can work it into the budget to join, at least I will have got off my tail and done something else first!

That's great, Mandy! This Walk Away the Pounds DVD is pretty great. I made it through the one mile workout this morning. It's about 18-20 minutes long. If I can do it, anyone can! I can tell I'm in a bit better shape than I used to be because when I tried to do it right after I bought the DVD, I couldn't even hardly make it through the warm-up phase. But I guess since the kids and I get out and walk so much, it's really helped me.

Randy and I walk daily (when he is home)and we really enjoy it. We go for an hour, which gives us a lot of time to talk, and we talk about EVERYTHING! It's nice to get some fresh air and we always feel good afterwards (sometimes a little sore!). Keep up the good work and I hope your asthma doesn't act up.

Linda, do you still run? I remember seeing you run all over town in all kinds of weather! That is so cool that you take such long walks together. Hopefully Tom & I will do that someday. Tom wants to get bikes eventually and ride them. I said to him "do you know how long it's been since I've been on a bike". He said "Oh, it will come back to you, it's just like riding a bike". Funny man. LOL.

No, I don't run, but I walk a lot. Once in awhile we will walk to Walgreen's or Atwoods, which is about ten miles. I do Firm workouts, though, and those are pretty tough. I did them so that I could survive the Boundary Waters!

You did used to run though, right? Or am I dreaming that? LOL.

Wow, I cannot imagine walking 10 miles. WOW!

Oh, yeah, I used to run a LOT. Like seven mile runs three to five times a week. I find that the older I get the less stress I want on my leg joints, though.
