Day 505 and fun things to do on a budget

I thought I would try to come up with some fun "summer vacation" type ideas to do on a budget. One suggestion is if you live in Oklahoma, go to the Oklahoma travel site: www.travelok.com. They have information about attractions all over Oklahoma, even in our neck of the woods here. One year when the kids were younger, we took them to the railroad museum in Enid. It was free and they had a great time looking at stuff and exploring. We also took them to the Cherokee Strip Museum. They enjoyed it, but I think their favorite was the railroad one. In Enid, there is also a Splash Pad that is free, you can take the kids there to play. We took our great-niece last year during vacation and she had a blast. I wished that it had been available when our kids were younger, they would have loved it. Other towns may have something like that available, I know there is one in Norman. Any other thoughts or ideas?

We are doing the splash pad tomorrow. Leonardos also has a thing called twilight time. Three nights a week u can go to just the adventure quest castle part outside for $2 each so I plan to do that one night too. Another thing we usually do every summer is the train and rides at Meadowlake. To let Hailee do everything, we spend maybe $10 if that. Jen took their kids to dig for salt crystals which is something I have never even done, but a great idea!

Crystal digging at the salt plains is great. Take shovels and jugs of water, sunglasses and sunscreen. If you're out that way, drive a little father and visit the sod house (closed on Mondays). The Midgley museum in Enid has tons of stuff, including an old phone book from Pond Creek, circa 60s. The Humphrey Heritage Village is also fun for kids.

So how was the Splash Pad? Did you guys have fun? That's a really neat thing that Leonardo's is doing. We loved going there when the kids were little. We did the digging for crystals thing once when the kids were little. It was fun.
