I'm a middle-aged woman determined to get out of debt. My husband and I are going through Financial Peace University (again!) through our church. As Dave Ramsey says, this isn't a microwave, it's a slow cooker. Come with me on my journey!

Day 675 and the new-to-us vehicles
The blue car is a 1999 Honda Accord. It's the one we've been borrowing. The owners offered to sell it to us. We liked it and felt like it was a good car. So after taking out what we owed them, that left us $1700 to buy another vehicle with. We found the red car, a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. They were asking $2000 for it, but it needs a driver's side front strut, a tune-up, and a headlight. As we drove it, Tom & I discussed it and reminded ourselves of Dave Ramsey's advice: 'be willing to walk away'. So when we got back, Tom offered $1500 for it and the girl very adamantly said no, she could not take less than $2000. So we said, ok, we understand, thank you, and we left. Not 20 minutes later, the girl calls us and asks if we can go up to $1600! So we talked about it, said yes, and drove back to pay and get the car. I was so proud of Tom! Bargaining does not come easy to him and it was hard for both of us to walk away because we liked the car. But we simply did not have $2000 to spend.
So, we were able to find 2 nice new-to-us cars with the insurance money from Tom's car and the little bit we had put aside since the van had quit. What a blessing!

That's great! We drove our '92 Accord for 16 years and 360,000 miles!
i just finished reading your paper, and I am so impressed. You should put a link to it on here, so everyone that wants to can read it!
Linda, that's good to hear. We've always heard that Hondas are good vehicles.
Di, I would do that if I could figure out how to, but I can't. At least not yet.
